LABRAL TEARS OF THE HIP

LABRAL TEARS OF THE HIP

HAMSTRINGGLUTEUS-TENDON-TEAR

The cartilage ring that follows the outside rim of the hip socket is called the labrum. This ring helps hold the ball of the femur within the hip socket and also acts as a cushion for the hip. Symptoms of a tear can cause hip or groinal pain, stiffness, a limited range of motion, or even a locking or clicking sensation in the joint of the hip. Most often caused by sports trauma, tears can also occasionally arise from repetitive motion or congenital hip deformities.

AVAILABLE THERAPIES

Over the counter and prescription medications are commonly used for pain relief. Non steroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs lessen pain and lower inflammation. Corticosteroids injected into the joint can also provide temporary pain relief.

A therapist can help you determine which movements cause the most pain and thereby avoid them. Exercising can also strengthen the joint to help increase movement.

If a serious tear requires surgery, a surgeon may remove the torn tissue or even repair it by surgical sewing. PRP treatments can lessen surgical recovery times and recuperation.
